Default Impossible to get collectors items

My tank wants to get the shield from the collector just outside of Camp Rankor. The shield does +60 while hexed and -2 damage while hexed. It requires 5 frosted griffon wings and unfortunately of all the frosted griffon wings I've collected in the past with all my characters I've apparently just sold them to the merchant. Now I'm heading out of Rankor to farm the griffons and so help me God not a single one has dropped a frosted griffon wing for all the countless griffons I've slaughtered!!!!

I'm sure other people have had this problem but I was just wondering if any of you had kept collectors items for a long time and then just sold them because they were taking up space or you needed money or didn't feel you had a need for them....only to realize you wanted them after you sold them and now you can't fricking even get a monster to drop them anymore. I guess its like many things in life, you get something when you're not looking for it and then the moment you are looking for it, you can't get it.

Were you using henchies because they take all the good stuff. Keep farming and you will get 5 wings, or you can just buy the wings from other players.

i had the same problem. sold all the wings i got to merch...realizing 2 month later that i could use them for that hex shield.
so i decided to farm the area with a guildie. she's a necro and i used my ranger.
we went out and killed the griffons and rezoned for at least 2 hours just to get 5 for each of us. its a pain. but managable.

Yeah, I was using henchies. I tried to fool around with different solo builds but couldn't get anything to work....I'm not that good at this stuff unless I rip off someone else's build if I find one. I used 4-5 henchman typically and I saw quite a few gold coins drop and just a small handful of weapons drop...and of course no griffon wings. Funny thing is I have quite a few Irridescent griffon wings from the desert, but nothing for the griffons in the Shiverpeaks.

I have a character just for storing collectors items because it usually takes weeks to get the needed amounts for multiple attribute weapons.

Yeah, I do too, but sadly that character as well as my storage is pretty much full. I have so much crap that I've either been too lazy to sell off or been hanging on to until the right time that I'll need it. Unfortunately for me those wings were one of the things I apparently decided to merchant. Anyway, I gave it another go for a while and still no wings to show for it. I finally went back into Camp Rankor and bought 5 wings off of someone. I spent 600g for them which I know is really high, but considering all the wasted time farming for them I did it anyway. I can spend 15 minutes farming hydras to make up for the gold I spent and then some so I'm not really worried.

Kellogg's Frosted Griffon Wings- stay crunchy in milk!

Isn't that the same shield you get in Vulture Drifts? 60/3 hexed? I think that may be a bit easier to obtain. I believe he takes 5 Massive Jawbones, which are relatively easy to get either solo with a 55 monk, or 2-man with a competent healer.

Yeah, you really need to cutdown the number of henchies if u want more drops.

Yeah the desert one is alot easier to get. Infact, I think all the desert stuff is easier to get. Anything you can get in shiverpeaks, you can get in the desert.

It just takes time.

Also for every henchmen you bring you cut your chances of getting anything in the first place. If you bring one henchmen, you cut your chances in half, if you bring 7, you have 1/8 of your normal chance of scoring a drop.

If you are having storage issues also, use one of your inactive slots as a storage character. I have a mesmer i made it PvP for quick storage access that holds all my old sets of armor and weapons I don't use regularly enough to keep with me or in the standard storage bin.

I can sympathise, it's times like these when you pray for the anti-farm code to kick in so they stop dropping weapons.

The desert one I got was based on the extra life being when you are in a stance, which is much better than enchanted or hex. At least you can control when you are in a stance if you are a warrior. Of course, it takes five bleached shells which are extremely tough to get...

I belive they reduced that to 2 shells for the stance shield?

As said, henchmen take a share of the drops much like players would. Blessed griffons are tricky to farm, easiest with a 55 (symbol of wrath rips up armored characters) that uses IW (mesmer!) or DA (necro!).

Henchmen have taken a share of the gold AND drops for as long as there have been henchmen. Thats why people make so much fuss over soloing - no sharing. =)

Yes they reduced it to 2 shells. And you can buy them pretty easily for 1k each at augury. Just stand there for 10 minutes spamming and you'll get them,

Take a 55monk outside rankor, those griffons are easy kills aslong as you dont aggro any heretics.

The same shield is also sold by another collector for Sand Giants (giant?) Jaw Bones. Sand Giants are incredibly easy to kill, because they kill themselves with 10% sacrifice skills and cause bleeding on themselves. I've farmed them for a long while, before i found an even easier spot in Cantha. Anyway, if u go to the lower right ascension mission (Dunes?), exit and near exit in lower right corner of this area, there is the collector. You can easily farm around 16 giants there, pop in and out the lower right exit and repeat.

I remember in the old good days selling frosted griffin wings, true henchies take your drops but also wings will drop for you,if your not a class able to solo them.
